This Monday, February 1st, we are hosting an evening lecture and discussion on “Sociology and Religion” presented by Linda Kaye Larrabee, Instructor of Sociology and Women’s Studies.
I hope that everyone can make it out to the meeting. Here are the details:
Monday, February 1st
8PM, Holden Hall Room 4
For those that couldn’t make it to the first meeting, we are reading a book a month, and to start, we’ve chosen The Missionary Position by Christopher Hitchens. Available at both B&N and Amazon. The book is a quick read, which gives you plenty time before our discussion towards the end of February (The 22nd to be exact).
Save the date: February 12th is the 201st birthday of Charles Darwin. We plan on having a table set up outside the SUB to enlighten people about Darwin and evolution. It’s going to be a lot of fun!
Also don’t forget, we’re meeting every week!
Oh, and from the office of the treasurer, we are running a special for our Spring membership drive where you can pay dues as well as get a t-shirt for $15. Of course you can purchase the shirt separately for $10, ideal for non-students who still wish to show their support and dues can be paid separately as well ($10). Officer elections will be held this semester, so dues not only support the organization but give you the power to shape its direction next semester.
Good start to the semester Monday night! Some of us are going to get together at Fuzzy’s Taco Shop (2102 Broadway, just down the street from campus) Thursday night around 7:00.
Hey everyone,
It’s the first meeting of the new year, and we’re wanting to get everything rolling as early as possible. Yes, we did schedule the first meeting on MLK Jr. Day, but we were unaware that we wouldn’t be able to get into the building! So we had to move it! Check out the changes below. I hope that everyone can make the meeting next week as it will be the start of a great semester!

January 25th, 2010 @ 8pm
Holden Hall Room 4
Two announcements:
- I think we were going to wait until the meeting to tell everyone but I can’t wait. We are going to meet EVERY week. Hell yea! We did this for reasons that will be discussed at the meeting.
- I posted 200 flyers (or fliers) around campus Wednesday. See if you can spot one, take a picture by it, upload it to Facebook and show it off.
Just a reminder that our next meeting will be this Monday night, 8:00 PM in Holden Hall room #4. I know several people will be out of town for the holiday already, but it should be a lively discussion this week so I hope everyone still stuck in Lubbock can make it. We are still collecting cans for the food drive, so feel free to bring a few to donate. Hope to see you there!
Our next official meeting will be this coming Monday night at 8:00 PM, Holden hall room #4. We’re going to try something a little different this week, so I hope everyone can make it. We are asking if at all possible that you arrive a couple minutes early so that we can start the meeting on time this week. Of course if you can’t be there on time you are still welcome to get there when you can, we just need to get the meeting underway on time this week. We will also be starting our food drive for the South Plains Food Bank as well. Throughout the month, we’re asking everyone to bring a couple cans whenever we get together. Hope to see everyone there!
In case anyone missed the email-If you wish to come to the party we ask that you email us officers@secularttu.com for the address and directions. Two reasons behind this, we don’t want to publicize the address all over the place and so we can get a feel for how many are coming. Party is this Friday, the 23rd, starting at 5pm and going till whenever in the morning.
You wanted photos, and know we have them: http://www.secularttu.com/photo-gallery/
We’ll be working on posting photos as we get them of the organization and the actives that occur.
Tomorrow must be Tuesday! The Secular Students Society at Texas Tech neither endorses nor opposes alcoholic consumption. That said, some of us are gonna get together at Jalisco’s tomorrow (tue) night around 7 PM for(cheap) margaritas and Mexican food. It is located on Avenue Q, about a block south of 19th.
So it is unfortunate of me to have to say this but we are having/needing to wipe the current forum system and move to a new system. Two things with regard to this:
- You will have to re-register
- All the hard work and effort you put into the old forum is no longer visible (note not lost – if you have something really witty you wish to save or re-post, email me and I’ll find it for you
The new forum will be going live tonight and will consist of a member and non-member section. The member section only members of the Secular Student Society will be able to post and the non-member section will be open to the public. We are hoping that this and a few other changes will eliminate some problems discovered during the past few weeks with the forum.
Addition (Sept. 30, 2009 – 8:20 am): Forums are up and active, go register and start having fun people.
Great meeting tonight!
In honor of International Blasphemy Day, were going to be outside between the Student Union Building and the Library on Campus, selling cookies in exchange of one’s soul. All a passerby must do is sign a simple contract, stating we have ownership of their soul; they will then receive a cookie of their choice.
So, don’t forget to stop by to trade your soul for a cookie and bring your friends!
